Cockroach Pest Control Services

Our trained professionals provide a full and thorough inspection for cockroaches and effective treatments.

Cockroach Treatment Services

Cockroaches are defined as a public health insect due to the pathogens that they transmit (such as salmonella and e coli). Therefore, it is important to seek professional advice if you have a cockroach infestation in your home or business.

Vergo technicians are trained professionals and understand the importance of a full and thorough inspection, including searches of all available hiding places in which cockroaches may live. Such as electric motors, electronic equipment, false ceilings, wall voids, cracks and crevices.

Once the level of infestation has been identified we will deploy a variety of application techniques and methods to provide a comprehensive cockroach treatment, including crack and crevice treatments, void treatments and toxic baits. We also have the capability of deploying our Specialist Heat Treatment Service.

Removing a suitable sustainable food source helps put stress on a cockroach population, meaning they are more susceptible to treatments. High levels of cleanliness are a must as this has a huge impact on the speed in which control can be achieved.

How to prevent a cockroach infestation?

Good housekeeping and hygiene will help prevent or control a cockroach infestation.

The following suggestions may help:

  • Keep all opened foodstuffs in tightly sealed containers
  • Keep surfaces, food preparation areas and floors as clean as possible
  • Clean kitchen areas intensively, focusing on areas where grease accumulates
  • Clear up and wash up after every meal and do not leave food lying around, especially overnight
  • Remove rubbish regularly from inside. Rubbish should be stored in sealed bins, such as wheelie bins, and kept away from the building
  • Ensure any indoor manhole access is sealed

Where will I find cockroaches?

Cockroaches will infest anywhere from houses, to restaurants and hospitals.

They are very adept at surviving on a wide range of food sources and will find harbourage in any location as they are able to move around through very small gaps.

Cockroaches can be described as one of nature’s best hitchhikers. Cockroaches and their eggs can gain access to a building by riding in deliveries, or in furniture or other items brought into the building. Some species of cockroach will even invade from sewers or drains.

Cockroach faecal material contains a pheromone that tells other cockroaches that the area is a good place to harbour. Large numbers of cockroaches may gather in areas where faecal material has accumulated. These areas are called aggregation points.

How can I tell if I have cockroaches?

All cockroaches are nocturnal and will typically hide during the daytime. However, if an infestation is large enough you may be able to see the insects at any time during the day.

If you suspect you have an infestation, watch for insects scuttling away to hide when you enter at night. You can use a torch to check behind units, refrigerators, and cookers to look for cockroaches.

Also, look for cockroach faecal matter and egg cases. In large infestations, there can be an unpleasant musty smell. Need our help, then contact us today!

Types of cockroach

German cockroaches

German cockroaches are the most common of the species within the UK.

Despite having wings they do not fly, but they are fast runners and extremely good climbers so they can move around very quickly.

German cockroaches prefer warm humid environments, with food and water nearby. Typically you will find them in kitchens or bathrooms.

Oriental cockroaches

Oriental cockroaches are typically dark reddish-brown in colour, with the adults varying in size from 25mm to 30mm in length

Oriental cockroaches can survive cooler conditions than Germans, but most of the time they will live in buildings, as unfortunately these often provide the comfort and safety they are looking for.

One of the most likely indoor areas you’ll find Oriental cockroaches is in the basement as these are moist damp areas.

American cockroach

The American cockroach has reddish-brown wings, light, circular or figure-eight markings on its thorax.

Typically they prefer habitats where food and water supply are plentiful.  American cockroaches require warmer conditions than German and Orientals. They can be found in tropical glasshouses and inner-city drains.

The American cockroach, like most others, will consider anything for its next meal. Foods, faeces and everything in between is fair game for a hungry roach.
