      Clothes moths are small insects, typically 4 to 8mm long, with a wingspan of 10 to 15mm and long antennae. They can be straw-coloured or mottled brown, with fringed edges on their wings. Like carpet beetles, it’s the larvae that cause the most damage.

      Textile Clothes Moth

      Common clothes moth larvae are creamy-coloured and can grow up to 10mm in length. They build a shelter made of silk and fabric where they rest during the day. Case-bearing clothes moth larvae, on the other hand, create a protective “sleeping bag” out of silk and fibers, which they carry around as they move. These larvae can take up to 9 months to mature, meaning the moths typically have just one lifecycle per year.
